Department on Legal Regulation of State Social Activity is entrusted with the implementation of one of the main tasks of the Ministry of Justice - participation in the legal support of lawmaking activities of the President of the Republic of Belarus, the National Assembly of Belarus and the Council of Ministers, coordination of lawmaking of the Government of the Republic of Belarus (within national governmental bodies).

The implementation of this task is carried out by the Department in the area of ​​social legislation, i.e. legislation governing employment, housing, marriage and family relations, pensions, benefits and social security, healthcare, education, science, culture, tourism, physical culture and sports.

The Department provides legal opinions on draft legislative acts of the Republic of Belarus, regulations of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus, international treaties of the Republic of Belarus prepared by ministries in this area, on their compliance with the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus and legislation in force. The Department itself prepares draft acts of legislation on specific topics in accordance with its scope of activities as well.

In accordance with the instructions of the higher state bodies given to the Ministry of Justice the Department participates in the elaboration of proposals on legal regulation of some problematic aspects that arise in law enforcement of social legislation.

In recent years, the Ministry of Justice has been assigned to a number of new additional functions, including the introduction of "one window" - the principle of interaction with citizens and organizations, the formation and improvement of legislation on administrative procedures, the review of applications of citizens, as well as matrimonial law relating to payments of aliments for child support and protection of rights of children from problematic families, recovery state spending on child support from these parents.

The Department continually compiles and examines the practice of application of relevant regulations, and prepares draft acts of legislation in case it is necessary to improve the legal regulation in these areas. The Department as well as the other units of the Ministry of Justice participates in legal education of citizens and public promotion of legislation, including through the media, and participates in activities to improve the skills of employees of legal units of other governmental bodies.
